John Madden, National Football League Hall of Fame coach turned broadcaster, died Tuesday morning at the age of 85.
The NFL said he died unexpectedly.
Madden coached the Oakland Raiders for a decade, making it to seven AFC title games and winning the Super Bowl following the 1976 season. He had a 103-32-7 regular-season record, and a .759 winning percentage that is the best among NFL coaches with more than 100 games.
Madden retired at age 42 to become a broadcaster at CBS. He also became the face of "Madden NFL Football," which is one of the most successful sports video games of all-time.
