The Mid-American Conference has announced the 2021 regular-season awards with seven total given to the Ball State Women’s Volleyball team (27-3, 17-1 MAC).
Head coach Kelli Miller Phillips was named coach of the year after leading the Cardinals to a MAC regular-season championship and an NCAA leading 27 win season.
Freshman setter Megan Wielonski won the freshman of the year award, leading the MAC with 50 service aces and ranking third in assists with 1,207 in 112 sets played. Wielonski was also named to the All-MAC first team and the All-MAC freshman team.
Three Ball State hitters, graduate student outside hitter Jaclyn Bulmahn, junior outside hitter Natalie Mitchem and junior middle blocker Mari Plitt, were named to the All-MAC first team as the Cardinals led the MAC with a .271 hitting percentage. The Cardinals ranked fourth in the MAC for total kills, averaging 13.82 per set.
Ball State is the number one seed heading into the MAC tournament, holding a bye through the first round. The Cardinals will be looking to punch their ticket to their second NCAA tournament birth in three years.
Ball State will be in action in the MAC tournament semi-finals on Nov. 22 at 4:30 p.m. in Worthen Arena.
