Ball State Women’s Golf placed sixth out of 10 teams in the Mid-American Conference Championship meet over the weekend at Silver Lake Country Club in Silver Lake, Ohio. The Cardinals finished with a total score of 965 (+101) in the 54-hole event.

After finishing in seventh place after Friday’s match, Ball State moved up one spot in Saturday’s action.

Freshman Kiah Parrott (77) and junior Morgan Lewis (78) led the Cardinals in scoring Saturday. Both placed inside the top 25, with Parrot at 21st and Lewis at 23rd. Head coach Katherine Mowat was impressed with how Parrott ended her freshman campaign.

“She had a freshman year only other current freshmen have experienced,” Mowat said. “She was in the lineup for all our events, and really learned a lot and grew as a competitor. Her round today says a lot about her grit, because the best is yet to come with her.”

Other performances from the Ball State lineup included junior Hadley Moritz, who shot 243 (+27) to finish third on the team. Senior Liz Kim shot 245 (+29) and junior Elizabeth Amendola shot 268 (+52).

Ball State scored best on par 3s (+23 with a 3.38 average). Parrott finished with a share of fifth place among individuals with a +2 score on par 3s.

Kent State won its 22nd consecutive MAC title with a score of 878 (+14).

At the conclusion of the match, representatives from the MAC handed out season-ending awards. Moritz received All-MAC Second Team honors while Kim was named the MAC Sportswoman of the Year. This is the third time in history Ball State has had a player win the Sportswoman of the Year award (Kirsty O’Connor 2010, Sarah Westaway 2014).

“To be recognized by their peers and competitors, it shows their competitive spirit,” Mowat said. “For (Kim) to come out on top in that regard, it was extra special and meaningful. (Moritz) was in the midst of a dominant conference stretch, and being in our conference, that honor is challenging to get. It was really nice to celebrate after the challenging year we’ve all had.”

In a shortened schedule due to COVID-19, Mowat was pleased with how the team navigated through each tournament.

“The fact that we traveled repeatedly to different tournaments,” Mowat said. “We're very grateful for the opportunity of these last three months.”
