At its hybrid in-person and Zoom meeting March 17, Ball State’s Student Government Association (SGA) voted on a resolution and budget request.
Senators voted on a resolution to endorse student recommendations for virtual learning. This resolution urges deans of each college to take student recommendations through surveys seriously as a way to improve virtual learning.
The resolution passed 31-0, with nine abstentions.
Senator Davis Odom also gave his presentation for the president pro tempore election, which he is the only nominee for. Odom said he wants to “pick up right where President Pro Tempore Lewandowski has left off.”
Odom said as president pro tempore, he plans to check in with new senators throughout the first month or two of the legislative session.
“I’d love to [converse]and build upon what they already know, and maybe build upon what they already know and give them some more information,” Odom said.
The senate approved Odom 35-1, with no abstentions.
Senators also voted on a budget request from the Community and Environmental Affairs Committee for a Dining in the Dark event.
Senator Tina Nguyen said Dining in the Dark is an event “where you can dine in an environment with dimmed lighting and conserve energy.”
Nguyen and the Community and Environmental Affairs Commitee are planning this event for April 6 from 5-8 p.m.
The budget request passed 34-1, with five abstentions.
Senators were also introduced to a new amendment standardizing committee and caucus elections, written by Senator John Wilcoz.
The amendment will require elections for new senators at the beginning of each semester, which is currently not in place.
Senators will vote on the amendment at the next meeting on March 24.
SGA also heard from a new senator applicant, sophomore psychology major Brenna Hackett.
She was approved 35-0, with three abstentions.
SGA will meet again next Wednesday, March 24, on Zoom. The following week will be another hybrid in-person meeting.
