MUNCIE, Ind. (NewsLink) – As COVID-19 continues to make its way around campus, more residential students are moving to isolated housing units.
Students who have tested positive for COVID-19 are staying in Brayton/Clevenger Hall at LaFollette Complex, while students who have come in close contact with the virus are quarantining in Scheidler Apartments.
Separating close contacts and students who tested positive lowers the risk of close contacts also contracting the virus, according to a University spokesperson.
If someone staying in quarantine housing in Scheidler Apartments begins showing symptoms of COVID-19, they will be moved to isolation housing at Brayton/Clevenger. Meals and basic necessities are provided to students living in both locations.
The University has no plans to find another building for quarantine or isolation housing, since the spread of cases is slowing on campus.
Director of Housing and Residence Life Alan Hargrave said that case numbers have “diminished significantly,” and he is thankful for the staff and students’ compliance to Ball State’s mask and social distance policies.
“We certainly understand that it’s not a typical college year. It’s not a typical year in America right now, either,” he said. “All of us have a role to play, and I’m glad to see so many of your residential students taking that responsibility seriously and helping stop the spread,” he said.
