MUNCIE, Ind. (NewsLink)—Tanner Barton has already worn many hats in his brief coaching career. From grad assistant to head coach in just three years, Barton has made rapid strides up the coaching ranks.
Now, he has been named the head coach at John Carroll University.
Barton started out his coaching career following a stellar four year swimming career at Ball State.
He was hired on as a grad assistant at Ball State for the 2018 season. He was then quickly hired on as an assistant coach at Cleveland State.
Returning back to Indiana, he took the head coaching job at Anderson University in 2019. He then bounced back to Cleveland when the John Carroll position opened up.
Barton credited the lessons he learned at Ball State as a swimmer and assistant for developing him into the coach he is today.
“Race for more than yourself. Race for your team. You race for your university," said Barton. "Those are two lessons that were instilled in me at Ball State and now I try to instill in my future student athletes.”
As Barton tries to build up his new Blue Streaks, he is unsure of whether or not they will have a season. Nonetheless, he’s hopeful they can be back soon.
