MUNCIE, Ind.(NewsLink) -- Wapahani Basketball is headed to the Lapel regional, winning their first Sectional title since 2014. The team owed much of its success to its standout senior class.
Tre Spence, Drew Luce, Braxton Davis, and Evan Rausch have played together for over 10 years.
“One of them lives in the same house as me, in my son, Drew. And the other 2 or 3 actually are very close and there is still a relationship of coach and player, but these are guys that trust me and I trust them,” said Head Coach Matt Luce.
The win that sent them to regionals, a 46-43 nail-biter over Frankton, avenged last year’s three point loss to the same squad.
For Spence, who led the team with 15 points, the win helped him realize the dreams that were put on hold when the team lost last year.
“Thinking about how we could have won that, how we could have made it to regional, especially seeing them make it to semi-state…” said Spence.
The team will face off against Rossville, an 18-win squad led by the Shaw brothers, Dirk and Damon. If the Raiders manage to prevail in their game Saturday morning, they will move on to face the winner of Rochester-Blackford Saturday evening.
