Ball State administrators have chosen to suspend all in-person classes for the rest of the spring semester, according to an email Wednesday night from Ball State President Geoffrey Mearns.
In the email, Mearns said that students are not being instructed “to leave campus, and University services and offices will remain open.”
While the campus will not be closed for the remainder of the semester, Mearns said in the email that he encourages “every member of the campus community to conduct meetings virtually whenever possible.”
“Susana Rivera-Mills, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, will soon provide additional information to the academic deans about the virtual instruction and alternative leaning options,” he said in the email. “Deans, department chairs, and faculty instructors will also communicate specific information about their courses to our students.”
Additionally, Mearns said in the email that from March 16 to April 30 the university will be “suspending all University-sponsored/funded events of 100 people or more,” and that event organizers should look to “alternative technologies” to conduct their events.
While the university hopes to hold Spring commencement on May 2, he said in the email, the decision will be made at a later date.
