Ball State Men’s Tennis (4-2) put on a dominant performance Sunday, keeping its undefeated home record intact. The team controlled the match in nearly every phase of the match, resulting in a 6-1 victory over Eastern Illinois (7-3).

The Cardinals started the day off by sweeping doubles play. The tandem of junior Chris Adams and freshman Vince Orlando captured the first doubles win by a final of 6-2. Freshman Parrish Simmons and junior Thibault De Negri continued the trend with a 6-3 win in their match.

After jumping out to a fast start in doubles, the Cardinals carried that success into singles play and never looked back.

Adams went on to win his singles match in two sets by retirement. Junior Bryce Bonin and freshman Eli Herran were the next singles to finish. Both players defeated their opponents 2-0.

Simmons and Orlando were both able to replicate their doubles performance into their own singles matches, as Simmons won his singles match 2-0, and Orlando was able to win two consecutive sets after falling behind early to capture a 2-1 win.

The series between the Cardinals and Panthers has been one-sided. Since their first meeting in 2010, the Cardinals have a perfect 11-0 head-to-head record against the Panthers. In addition to the history, this victory extends the Cardinals’ winning streak to three games, their longest of the season.

The team will look to carry its momentum into the next match, which will take place at 1 p.m. next Sunday at the Muncie Northwest YMCA against Illinois State. The last time these two teams met was in 2015 when the Cardinals came away with a 4-3 victory.
