MUNCIE, Ind. (NewsLink) —Ball State University’s dance team hosted a clinic for Code Red hopefuls.
Assistant coach Ashley Anderson said they host the clinics two times a year. The clinics are intended to help girls who are interested in joining the team get a feel for the dancing style Code Red uses. She said that even girls who have been dancing for the majority of their lives still came to their clinics so they can learn how the team works.
The clinic was open to both Ball State and high school students. The clinic lasted three hours. They focused on many different areas of dance. They started out with working on dance technique across the floor. After that, they did a group stretch so they were prepared for the upcoming choreography.
The dancers learned three different dance routines. They learned a jazz routine, a hip-hop routine and a sideline routine. The sideline routine was taught by head coach Olivia Ralston.
Before the girls learned their hip-hop routine, the girls learned a few new hip-hop tricks.
“My favorite part was probably the tricks, but I also really liked the hip-hop combo because it was more difficult and it challenged me,” Varsity Homestead Dancer Sophie Kalakay said.
Senior Code Red Dancer Julia DelSangro said she loves the dance clinics because she enjoys seeing the new girls that come in. “It’s nice to get new faces in,” she said.
The dance team finished off the day with Q&A session. The new dancers all sat in a circle and got the opportunity to ask Code Red dancers what they can expect if they try out for the team.
Code Red will host another dance clinic in the Spring.
