University Police Department (UPD) has arrested a suspect on two charges of burglary of a dwelling, committed on Ball State’s campus.

At around 12:05 p.m. Oct. 25, Misibaou Diallo, the arrested suspect, was seen leaving a room he didn’t belong in by a witness inside the LaFollete Complex in the Knotts/Edwards Hall, according to a police report filed in the case.

The witness yelled at Diallo, it states, who then fled the scene in a small grey vehicle. Residents of the burglarized room reported missing an Xbox gaming console and wireless controller, headphones and a Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 game disc.

UPD detectives reviewed the university’s security footage and located Diallo and his vehicle. Detective Ryan Pokorny was able to find the suspect’s vehicle and his apartment at The Haven apartment complex.

In an interview with the police, Diallo admitted to randomly entering rooms and taking contents out of the room. He also admitted to a second burglary in the same dormitory on Oct. 9, taking a PlayStation 4, an iPhone XR, a PlayStation 4 controller and a wallet.

Diallo said he didn’t have the console and controller, as he had sold them a week prior, but the iPhone was found when the police searched his person.

After the interview, Diallo was arrested, and he gave the police permission to enter his apartment and vehicle to retrieve the stolen items. He was arrested and released at 7:36 p.m. Oct. 26 with his bail set at $10,000.

UPD advises students to lock all doors and windows and keep interior lighting on to show signs of life and activity inside a residence at night as ways of preventing a burglary.
