Ball State sent out an emergency campus-wide email around 1 a.m. Sunday about an armed robbery on campus.

The email stated University Police Department (UPD) with assistance from Muncie Police Department (MPD) were investigating reports of a "strong armed robbery" in the area of the 1400 block of N. McKinley Ave.

In an email response, Jim Duckham, director of public safety at Ball State, said the two police departments responded to the area of the R-2 parking lot after the incident was reported to UPD as a large fight. MPD might have also received a 911 call he said.

Upon arrival, university police found a victim that had been assaulted, but was uncooperative with UPD, Duckham said. The subject had been injured, but refused to be transported to the hospital.

The victim also reported that his shoes and wallet were taken, he said. While UPD is sure of a battery incident occurring in the parking lot, it isn't sure if the theft as stated by the victim occurred in R-2 or elsewhere.

Duckham said there was a second individual MPD dealt with, but the person did not report being a victim.

Neither of the subjects the police dealt with were reported to be students, he said.

At around 1:15 a.m., an email was sent stating there wasn't any ongoing threats to campus and people were allowed to resume normal activities.
