MUNCIE, Ind.(NewsLink) - The Muncie Shelter is asking for your help as they are dealing with what they call "overcrowding."
Lately, there has not been a quiet moment at the animal shelter due to the quantity of cats and dogs. In fact, there are 400 of them.
Workers at the animal shelter say they are running out of space.
"We're very very full, so we really need adoptions if people are willing to come out to adopt a new cat or dog," said Natalie Beach, an employee at the shelter. "We're trying to set up cages wherever we can to try to make room for them. Just, our dog kennels are full and we just really need the adoptions."
The lack of space has caused another predicament at the shelter. They are now facing health issues, which is taking a toll on the four legged friends and the staff.
"A lot of cats get really really sick and so it causes a lot of medical bills and we're only funded through the city and so we only have a little bit to deal with all these animals that get sick and then we have to pay for them," said Beach.
The shelter continues to look for answers, but they want pet owners to take more responsibility and step up.
"We wouldn't be having all these animals come in if people would be responsible pet owners and fix their animals so they wouldn't have five litters a year, you know, so that's the biggest part," said Beach.
