Country singer, Granger Smith, who’s most known for the song “Backroad Song” and his comedy alter ego, Earl Dibbles Jr. announced Thursday on both Twitter and Instagram that his 3-year-old son, River Kelly Smith passed away due to a “tragic accident.”

“I have to deliver unthinkable news,” Smith wrote, “we’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith. Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived. Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life.”

Smith went on to say that his son brought so much joy into his and his wife’s life and “his light will be forever in our hearts.”

His post on Instagram included a photo of himself hugging his son while the two of them smiled.

At the end of his post, Smith urged his followers to “love the ones close to you." He also instructed those who wanted to send things like flowers and presents to his family to instead make donations to Dell's Children's Medical Center due to the incredible efforts of the doctors  and nurses who helped his son.
