This year, three community nonprofits will work together to host the first Community Cup golf outing to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Indiana (BBBS), The Whitely Community Council and The Boys & Girls Club of Muncie (BGC).

“By hosting a golfing event, we give our supporters an active, outdoor activity that’s also philanthropic,” said Sue Godfrey, executive director of BBBS.

Previously, the golf event was called “Men Who Golf” and was owned by the Old National Bank, but in 2018, it was passed on to the Whitely Community Council.

During the transition, it was decided to rename the event to “The Community Cup” because members believed it would aid a larger number of families while supporting the programs of multiple organizations.

“The Community Cup” also allows these partners to support one another because they are not competing for resources, they are strengthening each other with one large event.

“Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Indiana is excited to collaborate with community partners Whitely Community Council and the Boys and Girls Club of Muncie to raise money collaboratively for our organizations,” Godfrey said.

“I love being able to work with community partners whose missions align with BBBS — to provide the Biggest possible future to our youth through one-to-one mentoring — when joined with BGC’s active lifestyle and academic supports and Whitely’s community and family support services. Together we’re working for more successful kids, families, and neighborhoods!”

Teams of four will participate in 18 holes of golf, and food, drinks, games and prizes will be provided.

“Our three organizations have shared board members and acquaintances which make it easy to work together,” said Ken Hudson, executive director of The Whitely Community Council. “Our hope is that the community will come alongside this event, supporting it in the first year and through the years to come. There is room for additional sponsors and teams.”
