Editor's note: A previous version of this story said Tom Bracken was the president of the George and Frances Ball Foundation, according to Ball State's website. The Ball Foundation confirmed Bracken is not the president of that specific foundation, and Tom Kinghorn has been the president of it since last spring.

Ball State Board of Trustees member and Ball family descendant Tom Bracken will be running for mayor this upcoming election.

Chief Deputy Clerk Isaac Miller said Monday that Bracken is one of four Republican candidates running for mayor of Muncie this spring, although the deadline for mayoral registration is Friday. Primary elections will be held May 7.

In January, current Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler announced he would not seek reelection this upcoming election.

Bracken is currently the secretary for the Ball State Board of Trustees and has been a member of the board since 2012 after succeeding his father, Frank Bracken, according to Ball State’s website. He also served as the president of the George and Frances Ball Foundation until Thomas Kinghorn gained the position last spring.

This story will be updated.
