With the dangerous wind chills expected to happen overnight Tuesday and into the day Wednesday, the City of Muncie is responding by issuing a travel warning and opening warming stations across the city.
The travel warning will be in place from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to a press release from the Delaware County Emergency Management Agency (EMA). A travel warning is the highest level of travel advisory. Delaware County EMA said all citizens are advised to stay off the roads unless driving to work or have an emergency which requires them to be on the roads.

In response to the wind chill, several warming stations have opened up across Muncie.
Some of these locations include the Salvation Army on Wheeling Ave., the Muncie Mission on Liberty Street, City Hall downtown, and various local fire stations.
“We’ll have refreshments, some videos to watch, and some games to play,” Major Mark Litherland of the Salvation Army of Muncie said.
Litherland, along with everyone else at the Salvation Army, have been preparing for the overflow from the cold temperatures.
Muncie Mission Executive Director Frank Baldwin says even though the organization is typically focused on men, they will not turn anyone away.
“The door is open, the coffee is on 24/7, and the door is open,” Baldwin said.
