Senior attacker Amanda Shaw scored in the 85th minute to secure the Cardinals second conference win after failing to win in their last three matches.
Ball State Soccer (6-3-2, MAC 2-2-1) traveled to Dekalb to face Northern Illinois (1-12, MAC 0-5) on Thursday evening.
An 11th minute goal by senior midfielder, Lauren Roll set the Cardinals ahead early. The goal was assisted by senior midfielder, Allison Abbe. Roll tallied her second goal for the year.Head coach Craig Roberts emphasized that he was satisfied with his teams performance.
“I thought we created five or so great opportunities,” Roberts said. “We played with good ball control and great confidence.”
The Cardinals allowed just one shot on target, but the Huskies leveled the match with a goal in the 68th minute from Natalie Yass. The Cardinals had 13 total shots, with seven of them on target. Abbe and Roll led the team in shots with three a piece.
As the clock wound down, Shaw pounced on a mistake from the Huskies defense that gave the Cardinals the lead with five minutes to play. The Cardinals closed the match and secured another conference win.
“Their strong defensively, so it gives us less options,” Roberts said. “We need to extend our concentration levels.”
The Cardinals will be hosting the Western Michigan Broncos on Sunday at 2 p.m.
