The 2018 fall season begins this weekend for the Ball State Women’s Tennis at the Hidden Dual tournament.

The Hidden Dual returns after a two-year hiatus. What makes the tournament different from other fall invitationals is that a player who loses will not be sent into a consolations bracket. Head coach Max Norris said these duals are loosely compared to a the same type of match-up in the spring season.

“We’re going to play every team one time in doubles and then one time in singles,” Norris said. “Just like a normal doubles point, two-out-of three matches and then six singles matches.”

In practices this week, the Cardinals have focused on conditioning and being able to outlast their opponents. According to senior Isabelle Dohanics, the teams has been adding on various skills to their game before the start of the season.

“It’s never too late to keep adding things to our game and then getting better at certain things,” Dohanics said. “For me, I have worked on hitting a lot more balls more aggressively and staying on the baseline.”

With this being the first matchup of the season for the team, the Cardinals are looking for a hot start heading into the fall season opposite to their starts in past.

“Over the last three years, we have started kind of rough in the fall,” Gollhofer said. “We’re really focused on having a good start and really showing we have been working hard day in and day out. It’s important for us to get a good start here to snowball into the other tournaments.”

The tournament starts on Sept. 21at 9:30 a.m. and Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. at Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
