Despite a strong performance from redshirt sophomore Keegan Bronnenberg, Ball State Men’s Golf fell short of a top 10 finish at the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas, Texas. The team finished 12 among 13 schools for a total score of 864.
This was the Cardinals’ second consecutive year participating in the tournament, with this season’s invite being relatively low-scoring for all 13 schools. Although the Cardinals didn’t finish as high as they wanted to, several positives were still seen over the past three days.
“I was pleased with our effort and fight,” head coach Mike Fleck said. “We had a little bit of grit and we ended up moving a little forward, which is what you want to try to do when you’re in a not so favorable position.”
According to Bronnenberg, who tied for 23 individually, he was pleased with his effort but is constantly looking for ways to polish his overall game.
“Leading the team is something important, but as a unit we need to step things up a little bit,” Bronnenberg said. “I thought I hit the ball pretty well this weekend but I just need to stay more focused.”
One aspect that the Cardinals will look to work on during practices for the remainder of the week is improving on their short game, which is something senior Timothy Wiseman knows is essential for success.
“Our short game is lacking,” Wiseman said. “We have the talent but we just need to be more tougher.”
The Cardinals will next participate in the Firestone Invitational from Oct. 1 -2 in Akron, Ohio.
