Muncie’s Fieldhouse is one of the most well-known monuments in the city. Unfortunately, it was damaged by a tornado last fall. Now there are finally some answers on how and when it will be usable again
The Muncie Community School board approved repairs to the roof, structural steel and masonry wall Tuesday night. These repairs are expected to take around eight to ten weeks from the date a contract is signed with a construction firm.
Additionally, the gymnasium’s floor will need resealed and repaired, which should take four to five weeks. However, an official plan is not yet in place.
Board member Jim Lowe says all of these repairs should be finished in or by December. Lowe also said other areas of Muncie Community Schools are dealing with storm damages after the past week’s rain, including the Muncie Area Career Center where Tuesday night’s board meeting was held.
“I think that what was happening was the water was coming down so fast that the roof conductors, the drains on the roof, couldn’t take the water away quick enough to get it off the roof.”
The board did not take any action on other damaged buildings, like the MACC.
