Editor's note: In honor of the university's centennial year, The Daily News is counting down 100 days to the university's celebration Sept. 6 with 100 of Ball State's most famous traditions and figures. Check back each day to read about Cardinal history.

Originally started in 1974, the women's golf program took a hiatus starting in 1982, and was reintroduced in 2000.

Looking at the top of Ball State’s all-time women’s golf leaderboards, two names are familiar: Brittany Kelly and Jenna Hague.

Kelly, a four-time letter winner from 2008-2011, holds Ball State’s record for the lowest average score over four years (76.43). She is tied for second for most individual tournament wins as a Cardinal with two, bested only by Hague who has six.

Hague was the centerpiece of Ball State’s team from 2012-15. She owns the lowest one-year average score of 74.34 from her junior year, less than a single stroke ahead of Kelly’s junior and senior seasons.

The Cardinals won 13 team tournaments from the time Kelly stepped foot on campus to when Hague graduated. The two players missed each other by only a year with Hauge picking up right where Kelly left off.

Kelly’s 2011 senior season was capped off by a 17-over-par performance in the NCAA Central Regional where she placed 63rd. While her placement may not seem high, she was the first Ball State Cardinal to be selected to an NCAA regional. Hague did one better in 2014, placing 60th and shooting 16-over-par in the same regional.

Both Kelly and Hague received All-Mid-American Conference honors on three separate occasions. Both were recognized multiple times as Academic All-MAC. Both even experienced their coach, Katherine Mowat, win MAC Coach of the Year (2010 and 2013).

Mowat is entering her 15th season as Ball State’s head coach in 2018, as she waits for the next Cardinal great to step up to the tee.
