Editor's note: In honor of the university's centennial year, The Daily News is counting down 100 days to the university's celebration Sept. 6 with 100 of Ball State's most famous traditions and figures. Check back each day to read about Cardinal history.
Named after businessman Wallace T. Miller Jr. who donated the largest single private gift from an individual in the history of the university, The Miller College of Business was founded in 1966.
The college is the first and only school at Ball State named after an individual.
Located it the Whitinger Business Building, departments in the college include accounting, economics, finance and insurance, information systems and operations management, management and marketing.
These departments facilitate several bachelor’s, master’s, minors and certificates including ones pertaining to accounting, economics, management and marketing.
The college is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, or AACSB International, meaning it adheres to the highest standard of achievement in terms of business schools. Out of the world’s business schools, less than five percent have AACSB accreditation, though not every field of study at the school is accredited.
Out of the many activities and opportunities at the college is the Career Series, which allows freshmen business students to familiarize themselves with the organizations, individuals and opportunities available at the college.
Students can also join the Miller Business Honors Program. This program includes other classes and professional development opportunities like study abroad programs and the Miller Scholarship.
The college has several centers that facilitate education and research. These include the Center for Actuarial Science, Insurance, and Risk Management, the Center for Advancement of Digital Marketing and Analytics and the Center for Professional Selling, among others.
The Center for Professional Selling at the college is one of 28 within the University Sales Center Alliance, which provides hands-on experiences and research for students and the business community.
