Marvel has already left us in a pretty bad state after the events of Infinity War, but what better way to wipe those tears away than with the release of Deadpool 2? The sequel to 2016’s Deadpool has already introduced us to a slew of brand new characters and put together a new team of mutants called “X-Force”. But who exactly is X-Force? Well don’t worry because I read a lot of X-Men comics growing up and consider myself an expert on that universe. So here’s a list of who’s who in Deadpool 2.
Cable
Image from Wikipedia
The biological son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor (the clone of Jean Grey), Nathan Christopher Charles Summers’ destiny was orchestrated by Mister Sinister. His mother was actually created by Sinister for the purpose of creating Nathan, but she later turned on him and wanted to use her son as a sacrifice to open a portal between Earth and the demon dimension Limbo. He was soon sent 2,000 years into the future by his half-sister, Rachel Summers, to keep Nate safe and also learned how to control his powers. He returned to the present as a full grown adult and would go on to become the founding member of X-Force. Cable is a very powerful telepath and also possesses high levels of telekinesis. Because of those, he is considered an Omega-Level Mutant. He also possesses superhuman endurance, speed, agility and dexterity, and because of his cybernetic enhancements, he is also a cyborg as well. Cable also has an adopted daughter named Hope Summers who was the first mutant born since M-Day, the event where Scarlet Witch erased the powers of half the mutant population and attempted to erase the world of the mutant gene.
Domino

Neena Thurman, or Domino, is a mutant with the power perform random telekinetic acts that mess with probability, or to put it in similar terms, she can cause herself to have good luck and her opponents to have bad luck. She is also a trained mercenary and is skilled in both armed and unarmed combat techniques. She is a core member of X-Force and has been on every variation of the team since its start (including my favorite adaption of the team in 2008). She was born into the U.S. government’s Project Armageddon, which is a program whose goal is to create the perfect weapon using the powers of a mutant called Beatrice (we’ll get to him later). She was able to escape with the help of Beatrice’s cult, the Armajesuits who delivered her to a Chicago priest to take care of her. She is currently the leader of the newest incarnation of the Mercs for Money.
Bedlam

Jesse Aaronson was placed into foster care after his brother, Christopher Aaronson, used his mutant abilities to make his father insane and lose control of the car he was driving. After becoming emotionally unstable, Jesse was put into a psychiatric institution where his mutant powers came to fruition. He is able to generate a bioelectric field that disrupts mechanical and electric systems. Jesse can also affect the electro-chemical responses of living brain, causing someone to go into a state of pain or put someone to sleep. He also has a black belt in karate. He seeks the help of X-Force in search of his brother and later joins them when he finds out Christopher wants to gain control of a natural disaster creating mutant, Armageddon Man. He was killed in “Uncanny X-Men” #423 when he was captured and crucified by the Church of Humanity.
Shatterstar

Shatterstar’s origins are a little trippy. Gaveedra Seven is the biological son of X-Men Longshot and Dazzler but is also responsible for Longshot’s creation due to a temporal paradox later revealed to be one of Mephisto’s plans. Shatterstar was sent back in time to the Mojoverse where he was experimented on by an alien called Arize who took Shatterstar’s DNA and created Longshot. When his parents were mindwiped to forget they ever had their son and baby Shatterstar was sent 100 years into the future to maintain the time line consistency. He was later returned to the current time and was even one of the founding members of X-Force. Shatterstar also merged with a human named Benjamin Russell, and the combination of the two gives Shatterstar enhanced speed, strength, endurance, reflexes and durability. Along with all of that, he also has hallow bones, enhanced learning capabilities, a healing factor, vibratory shockwave generation, and empathically-driven teleportation. He is also a skilled swordsman. Shatterstar is also an openly gay character and made Marvel history by being the first mainstream character to kiss his boyfriend, Rictor, on-panel in “X-Factor” Vol. 3 #45.
Rictor

After being thrown into jail with his dad for smuggling illegal guns, Julio Esteban Richter was forced to watch his dad’s murder by Cable’s time-tossed clone, Stryfe. After his mutant abilities kicked in, he was kidnapped by an anti-mutant organization called The Right where he was tortured and almost forced into using his powers to destroy San Francisco. He was saved by a team of X-Men called X-Factor and became a trainee for the group. He would later go on to join the New Mutants and X-Force. Rictor is able to release seismic energy and powerful vibration waves. This allows him to create earthquakes, shock-waves and can even shatter or crumble objects. He is also immune to his vibrations and has a psychic bond with Earth’s biosphere. He lost his powers during M-Day but were later restored by Scarlet Witch. He was also in a relationship with former teammate, Shatterstar.
Peter
Image from ScreenRant
The only non-mutant on the team is a dude known as “Peter”. In the movie, Peter joins Deadpool’s X-Force because it gives him something to do. In the comics, the other Peter in the group besides Colossus is a British mutant named Peter Wisdom. His mutant abilities allow him to absorb solar radiation and ambient heat, releasing it from his fingers as semi-solid thermal energy projections called “hot knives” which can be fired like missiles or left on his fingertips like claws. He can also create shields, generate thermals beneath him to slow his falls and even control the knives to either cause severe damage or stun his opponents. After X-Force, Peter became the new field commander for MI-13, a section of the British Intelligence dealing with situations involving super-humans or paranormal activities.
We’re still unsure if Deadpool 2’s Peter is actually Peter Wisdom in disguise, but it would be pretty cool if it turned out he actually was. I guess you’re going to have to see the movie to find out.
