Matt Walsh, Mitch Weiler, Jake Romano and Ben Chinnici all were recognized by the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Wednesday for their performances on the court throughout the regular season.
Walsh was earned his second consecutive All-MIVA First Team selection. The Chicago native currently ranks seventh in the country in blocks per set (1.18) and 11th nationally with a .387 hitting percentage. The 6-foot-11 senior has tallied 253 kills, 32 service aces and 125 total blocks this season. The middle attacker capped his regular season with a match-winning kill against No. 7 Ohio State on Senior Night, and he can find himself in the Ball State record books in 12 different categories.
Both Weiler and Romano earned All-MIVA Second Team selections. Weiler can be located in seven different spots in the record books, and is 34th in the nation in digs per set at 1.92. As just a sophomore, Romano ranks eighth in Ball State history in assists with 805 in his career so far. Romano's assist numbers this season place him 24th in the country in assists per set.
Chinnici added to his strong freshman campaign with a MIVA All-Freshman Team selection. Chinnici has notched 155 kills (2.15 per set) this season to complement 31 blocks, eight service aces and 104 digs. Chinnici also earned MIVA Offensive Player of the Week in his first week of his collegiate career.
Ball State will begin postseason play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday with a home match against McKendree in the MIVA Tournament Quarterfinals.
