A retired Ball State professor accused of assaulting a boy received 18 months of probation Thursday.
Melvin Sharpe, a journalism professor who retired in 2007, was arrested in March 2015 on charges of child molestation — a Class A felony which could result in up to 50 years in prison.
In February 2018, Sharpe, now 81, entered a guilty plea to a separate charge of battery resulting in bodily injury — a Class D felony which results in an 18-month sentence.
