North Walnut Street between West Centennial and East Streeter avenues was closed after a Penske truck crashed into a utility pole Thursday.

The Muncie Fire Department, Muncie Police Department, Muncie Sanitary District and Indiana and Michigan Power were on scene.

Delaware County Emergency Dispatchers were notified of the accident, which occurred in the Family Dollar parking lot in the 1900 block of North Walnut Street, at 10:53 a.m. Thursday.

Muncie police closed the road due to an accident involving injuries at North Walnut Street and Chateau Drive.

A man driving a rental truck was attempting to turn around to avoid the accident when he hit the utility pole.

Muncie police said a hole was pierced in the gas tank.

No charges have been filed against the rental truck driver and he wasn’t injured.
