Looking for redemption from a 4-1 loss to Saint Francis earlier today, Ball State softball (8-3, 0-0 MAC) faced host East Carolina (6-7, 0-0 American) this afternoon. Both teams met yesterday, where the Cardinals came away with a 4-1 win.

While the Cardinals didn’t see much offense in their first game, this one was very much the opposite as the team would register seven runs over the course of the game. The Pirates held a 1-0 lead until the fourth inning when the Cardinals exploded on offense.

Senior Maddy Labrador hit a single to lead in sophomore Kennedy Wynn to tie the game for the Cardinals. Junior Madison Lee would extend the Cardinals' lead to four with a homer out to left field, bringing in Labrador and senior Cadie O’Donnell along the way. Freshman Hailey Demnianiuk and sophomore Janae Hogg brought in two more to extend the Cardinals lead to 7-1. The Pirates added one more run in the fifth, but that wouldn’t be enough as the Cardinals would take the game, 7-2.

On the mound, senior Carolyn Wilmes played for six innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Sophomore Alyssa Rothwell closed out the game in the seventh inning, striking out one.

Ball State will wrap up the Pirate Invitational tomorrow against Canisius. First pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 9 a.m.
