One honors program won an award last month for its work in supporting students.
On January 17, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) awarded Ball State’s Miller Business Honors Program its Promising Practices Award.
The award recognizes Miller Business Honors Program in student affairs and academic affairs collaboration. NASPA will present the award at its 100th annual national conference in Philadelphia, which runs March 3-7.
Gayle Hartleroad, the director of student services in the Miller College of Business, said how nice it feels to be nationally recognized.
“I think the greatest thing for us is that this is our 10th year anniversary,” Hartleroad said. “It really substantiates all the work our students and faculty have put into it all these years. The work of our dean can also not be diminished.”
The award is based on the publication “Learning Reconsidered.” Its purpose is to challenge students to tackle “transformative education” through a “holistic process of learning that places the student at the center of the learning experience,” according to the publication.
Hartleroad said the Miller Business Honors Program won the award after sending in its nomination packet.
“We submitted a nomination packet that included a lot of research and data about the launch of this program 10 years ago and the success it’s had over those 10 years,” Hartleroad said. “That nomination packet included letters of recommendation from faculty and alumni.”
Hartleroad will not be attending the NASPA conference in Philadelphia, but she said an alumnus from the inaugural class will be attending.
