Around 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, a man driving with frosted windows struck another vehicle at the intersection of West Bethel Avenue and Everbrook Lane.
The driver did not stop and damaged two more vehicles at the intersection of West Bethel and Tillotson avenues, according to the police report.
When police asked what happened, the driver said his windows were not clear and he was unable to see.
After hitting the first car, the driver said he tried to find a place to pull over to defrost his windows. However, police said there were several locations to pull over before the driver hit the other vehicles.
The driver was issued a citation for leaving the scene of the original crash.
To avoid this, Indiana State Police recommend drivers remove all snow and ice from the windows, roof, hood and lights of their car during winter weather.
Indiana State Police Sgt. John Bowling said while he has never encountered a crash in his 26-year career relating to someone not cleaning off their windows, he has pulled drivers over to tell them to clean off their windshield before continuing to drive.
According to Indiana Code 9-19-19-3, drivers can't drive with anything covering their windshield.
“A person may not drive a motor vehicle with a sign, poster, sunscreening material, or other nontransparent material upon the front windshield, side wings, or side or rear windows of the vehicle that obstructs the driver's clear view of the highway or an intersecting highway," the code states.
