Ball State tennis doubles partners freshmen Chris Adams and Tom Carney were awarded Mid-American Conference Doubles Team of the Week.
“That it’s a nice award for those guys,” head coach Bill Richards said. “They have played well and had a good start to the season. They have worked hard and it’s nice to see them be awarded.”
In its first three matches of the season, the duo recorded a perfect record, beating Indiana (6-3), Eastern Illinois (6-1) and Belmont (6-1). The duo has helped the team to an overall record of 2-1. Richards said that this award gives the pair a little confidence as it heads into its next matches.
“It’s always nice to be recognized for your good play,” Richards said. “It’s early in the year. It’s an individual award, but anything an individual does is always a reflection on the team. It’s for everyone.”
Also in singles play, Adams has obtained a 2-1 record. Richards said Adams has been playing really well, even in his freshman year.
“We knew he was going to be able to be a significant contributor,” Richards said. “When he came here and he had a good fall. He’s off to a good start his freshman year. We’re very pleased with the way he’s playing.”
The tennis team will face Xavier on Feb. 2 and will return to Northwest YMCA on Feb. 3 for a doubleheader match against IU Southeast. The match against Xavier starts at 1 p.m.
