As a part of the “Emens Presents at Pruis” concert series, singer and songwriter Mandy Harvey will be performing at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Pruis Hall.
According to Mandy Harvey’s website, Harvey “lost her residual hearing” when she was 18 years old “due to a connective tissue disorder,” and will be performing barefoot in order to feel the music through vibrations in the stage. Her performance will also include an audience interpreter.
Emens scheduled Harvey due to her “profound musical talent and inspirational voice,” said Kristi Chambers, the assistant director of marketing and communications.
“Members of our staff attend several arts conferences each year, where agencies feature potential artists and showcases,” Chambers said. “Based on audience appeal, artist availability, cost and routing, Mandy Harvey stood out to us as being an excellent option for the ‘Emens Presents at Pruis Hall Series.’”
The concert series began around 2008 to provide the Ball State and Muncie community with opportunities to experience musical acts of all genres. From performances ranging from jazz to Americana, students, staff and other community members can watch musicians in the “intimate performance space of Pruis Hall,” Chambers said.
“This hall is well suited for these performances of musical nature with wonderful acoustics and an intimate audience experience,” Chambers said. “Mandy Harvey is a musical inspiration that will fill the space with harmonic tunes and an uplifting message for audience members to follow their dreams, no matter their obstacles.”
In addition to being a singer and songwriter, Harvey is also an inspirational speaker who “is sure to inspire our Pruis Hall audience and share her story and journey with the crowd as well,” Chambers said.
Chambers also said that audience members may have the chance to meet Harvey after her performance.
“Often times, artists will come out into the lobby after the performance to meet with their audience,” Chambers said. “Typically, this opportunity is determined on the night of the performance by the artist, therefore there is the possibility that Mandy will meet with audience post show if time allows.”
