Over 400 runners and walkers will take over Ball State’s campus for Dance Marathon’s annual FT5K Sunday.
All the proceeds that are raised at the event go to Riley Hospital for Children and Children’s miracle network, according to the director of Dance Marathon special events Taylor Wong.
The event, which is now seven years old, has grown rapidly at Ball State. Wong said the run attracted 200 runners a few years ago, and now they are expecting 400, which helps boost their funds.
“Overall, Dance Marathon brings in about $670,000 for Riley,” Wong said. “This run now brings in about $6,000.”
Dance Marathon funds allow Riley Hospital to have a magical castle cart which gets pushed around the hospital to cheer kids up.
In addition to the 3.1 mile run, the FT5K event includes Wayland’s Fun Run, a mini run/obstacle course for children.
“It is dedicated to one of our Riley kids that unfortunately passed away," said president of Dance Marathon Morgan Polizzi. "All of the kids that participate in Wayland's Fun Run have a blast in honor of Wayland's memory.”
The fun run is for children under 8. Ball State students can volunteer to help the kids as they complete the course.
Registration for the event will begin at 8 a.m in North Quad. The run costs $30 for Ball State students, $35 for community participants and $12 for any child participating in Wayland's Fun Run.
