Construction contractors plan to close half of the State Road 32 (East Jackson Street) over the White River as part of a $2.9 million project to rebuild the bridge on Muncie's east side.
Work will start on or after August 14, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation. A temporary traffic signal will be used during this time to regulate both directions of traffic on one lane across the bridge as well as traffic to and from Bunch Boulevard.
State Road 32 is expected to remain open during the project.
The first phase of construction will shift both directions of traffic to share the north side of the bridge, while the south side of the bridge will be removed and rebuilt. The bridge will be rebuilt one half at a time with a middle phase replacing a utility service line.
The project is expected to be complete in 2020.
