Construction contractors plan to begin work on or after Monday on the $2.9 million project rebuilding the State Road 32 bridge over the White River on Muncie's east side.
State Road 32 is expected to remain open during the project, according to a press release from the Indiana Department of Transportation.
The first phase of construction will shift all traffic to share the north side of the bridge while construction begins on the south side of the bridge later this month or early August, according to the press release. The bridge will be rebuilt one half at a time with a middle phase for replacing a utility service line.
Temporary concrete barriers will be installed by construction workers along with traffic signals to regulate both directions of traffic on the bridge during construction.
All work on the bridge is expected to be complete in 2020.
