Crime Roundup: Reported overdose, drug raid and possession arrests

Editor's note: The Weekly Crime Roundup is based on reports from the Muncie and University Police Departments. Reported crimes are based on proximity to Ball State's campus and/or the severity of the crime. 

What's been happening with crime in Muncie? Here's this week's Crime Roundup from July 7 through July 13. 

Friday, July 7   

An officer of the Muncie Police Department was dispatched to the area of N. Jefferson St. and East Columbus Ave. in reference to a stolen vehicle.   

Upon arrival, the officer located the vehicle, which was reported stolen on July 6. 

The vehicle was occupied by female Michael Jones, 30, Muncie.

Jones was preliminary charged with auto theft, theft, and carrying a handgun without a license.    

A handgun was located in a purse in the vehicle. When officers questioned Jones about the handgun, he stated he was unaware that gun was in the purse when he took it.    

The handgun was reported stolen by the Winchester Police Department in Feb. of 2008.    

Sunday, July 9    

On June 30, Muncie Police officers, EMS and Muncie Fire Department were dispatched to the 2500 block of S. Meeker Ave to a reported overdose.    

The MPD officers were advised by both the fire department and EMS that they have been to the address numerous times for reported overdoses.    

Vickie Martin, 60, Muncie, was advised by MPD officers previously about maintaining a common nuisance. 

In a probable cause affidavit, the officer said “prior calls show that since Dec. of 2016, there have been at least 10 overdose calls.” The officer also mentioned that does not include the other types of calls they were dispatched to.  

Martin was booked into the Delaware County Jail on Sunday and preliminary charged with maintain a common nuisance, a Level 6 felony.    

Tuesday, July 11   

Indiana State Police Troopers made a traffic stop shortly after 6 p.m. in the area of State Route 332 and County Road 700 West after the trooper clocked a car speeding 72 mph in a 55 mph zone.    

Stephanie Lee, 26, Muncie, was arrested on two outstanding warrants, one out of Muncie City Court and one out of Marion County and charged with possession of methamphetamine.    

A Delaware County Sheriff’s K9 unit was called to the scene and indicated to the presence of narcotics in the car.    

The officers located methamphetamine in the vehicle.    

Wednesday, July 12   

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office conducted two raids that resulted in seizures of several drugs.    

The Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook Wednesday that 13 grams of heroin, nearly 10 grams of cocaine, 70 grams of methamphetamine and 14 grams of marijuana were seized.  
 

The raids took place on S. Elm St. and E. 14th St.    

“Sheriff Ray Dudley, who supervised the raids, said his top priority continues to be ridding the community of illicit drugs,” the Facebook post stated.    

Thursday, July 13   

A Ball State professor, who was previously arrested on charges of child pornography, pleaded guilty.
