Indiana Department of Transportation crews plan to close State Road 3 between Royerton and Hartford City starting on Monday. Construction crews plan to apply a chip seal on a 10-mile section of the road between U.S. 35 (also State Road 28) and State Road 26.
State highway traffic will be directed around road work with Interstate 69 throughout the construction time.
Road work schedules:
State Road 67 is scheduled to close between Redkey and Portland starting on or after Aug. 7 to apply a chip seal on a nine-mile section of the road between State Road 1 and State Road 26.
State Road 1 is scheduled to close between Redkey and Fiat starting on or after Aug. 14 to apply a chip seal on a 13-mile section of the road between State Road 67 and State Road 18.
State Road 28 is scheduled to close between Fairview and Deerfield starting on or after Aug. 21 to apply a chip seal on a 10-mile section of the road between State Road 1 and U.S. 27.
After years of heavy traffic and winter freeze-thaw cycles, small cracks have developed in the state's highways causing roads to develop crakes and form potholes when the water freezes and expands, according to the INDOT press release. The chip-seal treatment will seal off the cracks and stone chips will provide improved traction for stopping.
