by Daley Wilhelm Adam West, the first actor to give life to the iconic character of Batman, died today at the age of 88. West became the first incarnation of Bruce Wayne in the original television series in the Sixties, which was a much campier, light-hearted version of the Caped Crusader than what we know today. A surprise hit, West played Batman for a total of three seasons, 120 episodes, and a film simply entitled Batman. After Batman the television series’ final episode in ‘68, West went on to continue appearing in television, and in later years lending his iconic voice to various animated characters, a return to his role of Batman in The Simpsons, and even a spoof of himself in Family Guy. Recently, in August of last year, West returned to his original role as Bruce Wayne alongside the original Robin Burt Ward in Batman: Returned of the Caped Crusaders. The animated film reclaimed the zany, wacky antics of West’s Batman.
