School may be out, but The Charles W. Brown Planetarium has several free events, available for all ages, celebrating the upcoming solar eclipse.
According to a press release sent out by the Planetarium, these events are free, but "solar eclipse viewers will be available for a minimum donation of $2 each."
One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure
Dates: 5 p.m. Saturdays: June 3, 17, July 15, 29, August 5, 12, 19
Cost: Free
Description: This show follows "Sesame Street's" Big Bird and Elmo as they explore the night sky with their new friend from China, Hu Hu Zhu. Their adventure takes them on a trip from Sesame Street to the moon, allowing the characters to discover how different it is from Earth.
Along the way, the trio find shapes in the sky that help them find the North Star. According to the planetarium, this event is most suitable for ages for anyone above the Pre-Kindergarten level and states "this cross-cultural adventure opens children's eyes to the sky, helping them see how people all over the world are connected."
Eclipse: The Sun Revealed
Dates: 6:30 p.m. on June 2, 3, 16, 17, July 14, 15, 28, 29 and August 4, 5, 11, 13, 18, 19
Cost: Free
Description: While Muncie will no be in the path of totality for this summer's solar eclipse, the city will still see the moon block approximately 93 percent of the Sun's surface. The planetarium invites everyone ages 10 and up to learn about scientific discoveries that have been supported by total solar eclipses and instructs attendees how to safely watch a solar eclipse.
According the the planetarium, the show "uses beautiful visuals to explore the historical and cultural view of solar and lunar eclipses, and explains the geometry the creates these awe-inspiring sights.
