The Mid-American Conference league office announced Academic All-MAC teams for softball and track and field today – Ball State had 15 student-athletes make the list.
In order to qualify for the honor, student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average while participating in at least 50 percent of athletic contests for their particular sport.
Four softball players – Amanda Arnett, Rachel Houck, Carolyn Wilmes and Aeshia Miles – and 11 from the track and field team – Olivia Ashba, Danielle Dahl, Regan Lewis, Adrienne Mayfield, Stephanie McElhaney, Ericka Rinehart, Gabby Sims, Peyton Stewart, Kassidy Swenson, Kitty Taylor and Anna-Kay West – made the list.
For seniors Arnett, Houck, it is their third time achieving the recognition in their career.
Senior Ericka Rinehart earned the awarded for the third time this school year – ninth time in her career – earning Academic All-MAC for both cross country and indoor track and field as well.
Several other track and field athletes enjoy another Academic All-MAC awards, including juniors Gabby Sims and Anna-Kay West as well as senior Kassidy Swenson who won their fourth career accolades.
Each of the athletes, regardless of sport, has been nominated for the MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete Award, which is presented to student-athletes who have excelled in both athletics and academics. The award is voted upon by faculty athletic representatives from each school in conference.
