Senior center Renee Bennett is now the 26th Ball State women's basketball player to score 1,000 career points.
Bennett led the Cardinals (13-6, 6-1 MAC) with 22 points in their 75-53 win at Bowling Green State University (5-14, 1-6 MAC), and her last basket with 36 seconds left in the game put her over the threshold. She also finished with 12 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.
Bennett is the second Ball State player to score her 1000th career point this season, after senior guard Jill Morrison scored her 1000th career point in a 93-48 win over Urbana Dec. 28.
Ball State trailed 16-12 at the end of the first quarter, but opened up the second quarter with an 11-2 run to take a 23-18 lead. The run featured six Cardinals free throws, and they finished the game 13-14 from the line. After taking the lead, Ball State led for the rest of the game.
The Cardinals already led the Mid-American Conference with 3.9 blocks per game, and seven players combined to block nine shots against the Falcons. The defensive effort limited Bowling Green to a 26.2 percent shooting percentage, and Ball State outscored Bowling Green 38-10 in the paint.
Junior forward Moriah Monaco scored 15 points on 5-9 shooting from beyond the arc, and junior guard Frannie Frazier scored 11 points coming off the bench.
Ball State's next game is Jan. 25 at Buffalo.
