While there are a lot of great events on campus, Muncie also has a lot to offer open to the public. Here are some events going on during the fall semester:
Bill Caffee’s Boeing P-12B
Aug. 1-Aug. 31 at Academy of Model Aeronautics
Check out the award-winning scale model of the 1930 plane, built by 17-year- old Caffee. The museum is open Sunday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Ball State Fan Jam
Aug. 20 at Scheumann Stadium
5-7 p.m.
This event will feature stations for Ball State fall sports. There will be poster giveaways, free food and drinks. Code Red dancers, cheerleaders and Charlie Cardinal will be there as well. Fans can meet athletes and coaches and walk around the locker room.
"Great Battles of the Ancient World, Part 1"
Aug. 24-Sept. 7 at E.B. and Bertha C. Ball Center
10-11:05 a.m.
This six-part DVD series will illustrate what ancient battles really entailed. The series focuses on warfare in the ancient Mediterranean world, including Mesopotamia, Egypt and North Africa.
Minnetrista Farmers Market
Wednesdays and Saturdays at Minnetrista
8 a.m. – noon
Minnetrista will host a farmers market every Wednesday through Sept. 28 and every Saturday through Oct. 29.
Open Blues Jam
Thursdays at Valhalla Hall
8 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
Enjoy some live music at Valhalla Hall. This event happens every Thursday. Sign-up starts at 7 p.m., while the stage opens at 8 p.m. The event is free, but only open to those 21 and older.
Riggin Brick Barn Fest
Aug. 27-28 at 1200 E Riggin Road Muncie
The barn will represent Delaware County for the 2016 Indiana Bicentennial Barn Quilt. The quilt will be there during a festival celebrating the bicentennial.
Canning Experience
Aug. 27-Dec. 20 at Minnetrista
8 a.m. – noon
Find new recipes and canning techniques every Saturday while visiting the farmers market.
Meridian Health Services Fam Fest and Ducky Derby
Aug. 27 at Gresham Center
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
This event aims to improve the lives of families through fighting child abuse and supporting counseling and medical care. Ball State is a sponsor of the Ducky Derby, and representatives from the athletics department will be distributing favors and schedules.
Dream Fest
Aug. 27 at Delaware County Fairgrounds
12–5 p.m.
This free event will feature more than 35 activities for attendants to try. These include learning archery skills, a pottery class, climbing trees, riding in a monster truck and more.
Muncie Makers Market
Aug. 27 - Oct. 29 at Old West End
4– 7 p.m.
Hosted Saturdays, the market features local artists and locally grown produce.
Muncie City-Wide Comedy Jam
Aug. 27 at Cornerstone Center for the Arts
8–10 p.m.
Hosted by Marvin M-Dubs Phipps, this show will feature performances by Just Nash, Ronnie Phunny George and Kelsie Huff. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m.
First Thursday Art
Sept. 1 in Downtown Muncie
5–8 p.m.
Galleries in downtown Muncie will have open receptions each Thursday.
After Hours Art Reels: The Birdcage
Sept. 1 in Downtown Muncie
8–10 p.m.
The films in this series will be projected onto the Mutual Bank wall on Charles Street. Guests 21 and older can sit on the Fickle Peach patio area; those under 21 can watch from the sidewalk around the patio.
2016 Indiana Warbird Campaign
Sept. 2-4 at Academy of Model Aeronautics
There will be a special air show at 12:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The radio-controlled model warbird airplanes will perform dogfights and bomb drops. Friday, there will also be a fireworks display at 8:30 p.m.
Pokey Lafarge
Sept. 3 at Canan Commons
Pokey Lafarge and his band will perform as part of the Muncie Three Trails Music Series. The Halfstepsisters, from Indianapolis, will open the show.
MuncieMan Tri/Du Championship
Sept. 3 at Prairie Creek Reservoir
8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
This event is perfect for those looking for the next step toward a half or full distance triathlon. Learn more here.
Flags of Honor
Sept. 4-11 at Minnetrista
Minnetrista’s lawn will host a sea of more than 1,000 American flags. Flags of Honor is in honor and memory of local veterans, current service personnel, fallen soldiers and those who wish to display pride. Ribbons can be purchased as personal dedications at Minnetrista.
WIPB’s Second Annual “Be My Neighbor Day”
Sept. 10 at Canan Commons
1–4 p.m.
PBS Kids star Daniel Tiger will be in downtown Muncie to participate in activities with different community organizations. Ruditoonz will perform. This event is free.
Old Washington Street Festival
Sept. 17-18 at Historic Downtown, 500 block of East Washington Street
This festival will feature arts and crafts, food, live entertainment, raffles, demonstrations and more. Attendees can also tour historic homes for an added fee. However, the festival and parking are free.
Chase Charlie Races
Sept. 17 at Scheumann Stadium
Races include a 5K, Mile Mania, Kiddie 100 and a virtual race. Learn more here.
14th Muncie Mini Marathon
Sept. 17 at Muncie Fieldhouse
8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
This mini marathon starts at the Muncie Fieldhouse and goes through Minnetrista, the Wysor Depot and the John Craddock Wetland Nature Preserve. The race ends at City Hall.
Living Lightly Fair
Sept. 17 at Minnetrista
9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
This is a resource fair promoting sustainable lifestyles. The fair will feature speakers, activity stations, live music, expired medication drop-off and a market of green vendors.
Boy Scout Hog Roast
Sept. 17 at Delaware County Fairgrounds
11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Boy Scout Troop 22 is hosting its annual Hog Roast and Craft Bazaar.
2016 Muncie Beer Fest
Sept. 17 at Canan Commons
1–6 p.m.
This festival celebrates craft beer with local craft brews, live music, games, food trucks and games.
Bicentennial Torch Relay
Sept. 27 at Delaware County Fairgrounds
7 a.m. – noon
The torch relay will start with a free pancake breakfast from 7-9 a.m. before starting on the designated route. Find more information about the torch route here.
John Scofield concert
Oct. 6 at Canan Commons
John Scofield will be performing as part of the Muncie Three Trails Music Series. LaMont’s Company, a Ball State-associated jazz quartet, will open.
Hearts and Hands United Coasts Against the Cold
Oct. 15 at Delaware County Fairgrounds
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
This event is sponsoring Coats Against the Cold.
Magna cum Murder XXII
Oct. 28-30 at E.B. and Bertha C. Ball Center
This event will feature authors Maureen Jennings and Natasha Cooper. Both write crime novels.
Veteran’s Day Program
Nov. 11 at Beech Groove Cemetery
11 a.m. – noon
Details will be announced soon about this annual program.
Holiday Gift and Craft Bazaar
Nov. 12 at Elmcroft of Munie
2–4 p.m.
This craft bazaar will feature booths with gifts, crafts, jewelry, pottery and more. Booth space costs $20; contact Katreena Stinson at 765-289- 4260 to reserve.
Holiday Handcrafters’ Show
Nov. 18-19 at Delaware County Fairgrounds
2–8 p.m.
The 28th annual show features a variety of fine arts, crafts, collectibles, antiques and foods. Exhibits will be in two buildings and come from all over the Midwest. Admission is $4 for adults, children 12 and under are free.
Indiana Musical Hertiage
Nov. 20 at Minnetrista
2–3:30 p.m.
This bicentennial concert will feature the music of solely Indiana musicians and composers. Names include Cole Porter, Hoagy Carmichael, Michael Jackson, Paul Dresser, Ned Rorem, David Baker, May Aufderheide, Julia Lee Neibergall, Noble Sissle and Bill and Gloria Gaither.
There will also be an original piece by a member of the event staff. The event is free.
Enchanted Luminaria Walk
Dec. 2-3 at Minnetrista
6 p.m. Dec. 2, 2-9 p.m. Dec. 3
This free community event celebrates the holiday season. There will be holiday music, treats, winter games, live performances and carriage rides.
Central Indiana Gun Shows
Dec. 10-11 at Delaware County Fairgrounds
9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The Muncie Gun Show is hosted by Central Gunshows of Indiana. All federal, state and local firearm ordinances and laws must be obeyed.
