Ball State women's golf did not have to travel far for the 2016 Mid-American Conference championships, as the team starts its postseason play at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville on April 22.
The MAC Fall Preview was last fall Purgatory as well. There, the team finished in fifth place overall and posted one of its best scores of the year in the second round with 296.
Junior Allison Lindley, who is also the team's leader in scoring average this year, believes they have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the course. She also believes the Cardinals' experience at the course can help the team, especially when dealing with adverse weather.
"Purgatory is a course where it can get pretty windy, and you need to be used to playing in the wind," Lindley said. "It can change a golf course significantly."
The teams competing this week are vying for an automatic spot in NCAA Regionals, a spot automatically earned with a winning spot.
Kent State, ranked 14th nationally in the latest Golfweek rankings, is the defending champion — and the highest-ranked team entering the tournament this year.
The Cardinals started Lindley, junior Kelsey Sear, sophomores Morgan Nadaline and Kayla Adamson, and freshman Sydney Anderson.
Ball State began the first round of the tournament at 8:50 a.m.
