Weekend in athletics: April 8-10

Baseball

Ball State outscored Mid-American Conference rival Western Michigan 41-6 over its three-game home streak. After canceling the original opener on April 8, the teams rescheduled for a doubleheader on April 10. The Cardinals followed up its 7-2 opening win with two more, winning them 21-1 and 13-3. 

Men's volleyball

Men's volleyball finished its final weekend of the regular season, dropping two matches to Lewis (3-0) and Loyola (3-1) in the process. The Cardinals had two players injured over the weekend but retained a No. 3 seed in the upcoming Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association tournament. Ball State returns to action on April 16 in the MIVA quarterfinals match against No. 6 McKendree. 

Softball

Ball State softball also dealt with weather issues over the weekend, moving its doubleheader to April 8. After losing the first game 0-2, the second game was stopped in three innings due to weather conditions. The Cardinals returned the following day and dropped the first game 4-13 and won the second 5-3. Ball State returns on April 13 for a home game against Northern Illinois. 

Women's tennis

The 14-match winning streak ended for Ball State women's tennis after its 3-4 road loss to MAC-rival Buffalo on April 10. Ball State opened the weekend April 8 with a 4-3 win over Akron. With the 1-1 weekend, Ball State is now 18-3 overall and 5-1 in the MAC.

Men's tennis

Ball State men's tennis won its doubleheader 7-0 over Taylor on April 9. The Cardinals are now 10-10 overall this season, and the Trojans are 6-10. Ball State returns to action on April 15 to take on Buffalo at 2:30 p.m.

Women's golf

For the first time in 2016, Ball State women's golf stayed at home when it hosted IPFW and Indianapolis. The Cardinals finished in 2nd place overall, and juniors Allison Lindley and Kelsey Sear finished in second and third place, respectively.
