Randal R. Schmidt, a maintenance supervisor, was arrested after an investigation by the Indiana State Police Cyber Crime Unit finished. The University Police Department also assisted in the arrest.
The investigation started after a routine review saw that a campus computer was accessing a site with suspicious content, UPD Chief James Duckham said in the press release.
Schmidt was suspended and barred from campus on April 4, and his office computer was confiscated. Schmidt has worked at Ball State for 20 years and he voluntarily ended his employment with the university.
Evidence does not suggest that anyone connected to the university was involved with his activities.
