Ball State women's tennis brings its 10-match win streak back home to take on Mid-American Conference rival Western Michigan.
Ball State traveled March 18 to Wright State University to play its final non-conference match.The Cardinals defeated the Raiders 6-1 and extended their win streak to 10 matches.
The 13-2 Cardinals will open up MAC play against the 11-5 Broncos from Western Michigan.
Although there are no conference records for any team thus far, Ball State and Western Michigan are first and second in the MAC standings at overall records. There is a 2.5 separation between the No. 1 Cardinals and No. 2 Broncos.
Singles players for Ball State include junior Toni Ormond, sophomore Carmen Blanco Galzerano and freshmen Peyton Gollhofer and Audrey Berger. Each has held a strong presence on the court, all having wins in the double digits. Sophomore Julia Sbircea is one win away from the record, but has a chance to achieve it Friday.
Overall, the women’s tennis team boasts a .753 winning percentage in singles action.
Through Western Michigan’s 16 matches, the Broncos have posted a singles winning percentage of .641. However, the Broncos also have two players with 10 wins, junior Tracy Kuhle and freshman Denise Azcui, along with three players with nine wins, freshman Menina Lyubomirova, sophomore Olivia Myers and junior Barbare Eristavi.
First serve between the two teams began at 12 p.m. on March 25 at the Muncie YMCA.
