While many students took a week off to relax and maybe even travel, Ball State athletic teams took the opportunity to continue competing.
Many of the outdoor athletic teams had a chance to travel around the United States to compete in fair weather. Here's a recap of what happened over the break in Ball State athletics.

Men's basketball (0-2)
The men's basketball team had a chance to earn its 20th-win of the season against Northern Illinois on March 4. After a 69-80 road loss, the Cardinals returned home to play against Miami for the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
While the Cardinals were favored coming into the game, they lost 49-47 to the No. 11 seed, and the team's season appeared to be over. However, Ball State accepted a bid into the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. The team will travel to Nashville, Tenn., to play Tennessee State for the first round on March 15.
Women's basketball (1-1)
The Cardinals finished off their season with a 10-point win over Toledo on the road on March 5. Ball State came into the MAC tournament as a No. 3 seed but lost its quarterfinal game against No. 6 Eastern Michigan 67-53.
There has been no postseason indication for the Cardinals, but head coach Brady Salleee said believes a bid to the National Invitation Tournament may still be an option.
Baseball (5-4)
The Cardinals played three top-25 teams over Spring Break. At the Chanticleer Classic, Ball State lost to No. 13 Ole Miss during its first game and No. 18 Coastal Carolina on March 6. Ball State was able to defeat Cincinnati during its doubleheader on March 5.
Following a 2-2 weekend, Ball State caught heat, sweeping Savannah State in two straight games and pulling off an upset victory over No. 6 Louisiana State University on March 11. LSU did bounce back over the course of the next two days to win the three-game series 2-1.
Softball (4-8)
Ball State softball had the busiest schedule over break, playing in three separate tournaments. At the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament, Ball State went 2-3, which included a loss to No. 21 Notre Dame.
Following that performance, the Cardinals went 0-3 in the Central Florida Tournament, which included two losses to the No. 25-ranked Knights.
The team finished Spring Break at the Jacksonville Tournament, where they went 2-1, ending the break with an 11-0 victory over the host school, Jacksonville.
Men's volleyball (2-2)
The Cardinals played in four matches over break, three of which came in the first four days. Ball State opened up its break splitting two matches to Grand Canyon University on the road. The loss gave Ball State its first Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association loss of the season.
Los Angeles was the next stop, where Ball State took on the University of California at Los Angeles at Pauley Pavilion. Ball State was outplayed offensively by the No. 4-ranked Bruins, who moved past the Cardinals 3-0.
Ball State finished up in Muncie on March 13, where it was able to get back on a winning track with its 3-1 victory over Mount Olive.
Gymnastics (0-3)
Ball State traveled to Corvallis, Ore., on March 4 to take on Oregon State and Seattle Pacific in a tri-meet. The Cardinals' 192.425 team score was its second-to-worst score of the season, giving them the third-place finish.
The Cardinals followed that performance with a 194.775 finish against North Carolina State. The Wolfpack finished with a 195.900 performance, which gave Ball State a loss in its final meet of the regular season.
The MAC Championships will be in Muncie on March 19. Ball State has four of its five victories at Worthen Arena this season.
Women's tennis (4-0)
The women's tennis team extended its win streak to nine straight over the break. With four straight match victories to Cincinnati, South Dakota, Norfolk State and James Madison, Ball State is now 12-2 on the season.
Men's tennis (1-2)
After closing out its home stand with a 5-2 victory over Butler on March 5, Ball State traveled to Nashville, Tenn. The Cardinals dropped both of their matches on the road to Lipscomb and Vanderbilt.
Women's golf (1/8)
Ball State women's golf finished tied for first place at the Bulldog Florida Invitational on March 9-10. The team's two-round scores were identical to Western Michigan.
Men's golf (10/12, 5/11)
Ball State opened up play at the Colleton River Collegiate finishing in 10th out of the 12 participating schools.
The Cardinals then competed in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, where they finished fifth overall, good enough for their second-best performance of the year.
