What was supposed to be a four-game tournament turned into two after the Ball State softball tournament had two games rained out on March 19 in College Park, Maryland.
Senior pitcher Nicole Steinbach posted a complete game shutout in the Cardinals' 2-0 win over Massachusetts.
Steinbach also received her third Mid-American Conference West Pitcher of the Week award for her efforts. Freshman catcher Madison Lee drove in the only earned run of the game. She hit in fellow freshman Madeline Porter in the sixth inning.
The other run came from junior outfielder Indian Steward who reached base on an error. The Cardinals only tallied only two hits in the game.
Saturday's games against North Dakota State and Maryland were both rained out. Currently, no makeup dates have been announced for those games.
Ball State finished the weekend with another win over Boston, 5-4.
The Cardinals took an early lead in the first after a bases-loaded RBI walk from junior outfielder India Steward. Boston tied it up again in the second, but a four-run third inning from Ball State gave it the lead which it would not let up. Junior Amanda Arnett and freshman Aeshia Miles both had two RBIs in the game.
Steinbach was credited with her team-high 11th win after striking out four and allowing two earned runs in four innings of relief.
Ball State will move on to Mid-American Conference play this weekend in Oxford, Ohio for a three-game series with Miami University. The Cardinals will play their final non-conference game March 23 against Butler in Indianapolis.
