Ball State men’s golf capped off its spring break with a fifth-place finish at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, buoyed by a second place individual finish from sophomore Johnny Watts.
Watts fired scores of 69-74-71 to finish the tournament 1-over-par, one stroke behind individual champion Will Branham of Morehead State. Watts held the individual lead after the first round.
Redshirt sophomore Keegan McKinney finished tied for 14th, sophomore Michael VanDeventer tied for 26th, senior James Blackwell tied for 32nd, and freshman Tyler Pearson tied for 52nd.
Competing as individuals, freshman Timothy Wiseman and sophomore Michael Makris finished tied for 14th and tied for 26th, respectively.
Ball State’s final score of 888 over three rounds put them behind Elon, Marshall, Austin Peay, and team champion Xavier University.
The Cardinals also finished 10th at the Colleton River Collegiate over break, posting a three-round total of 932.
Blackwell lead the team at Colleton, with a three day total of 231, finishing in a tie for 34th. Following him, VanDeventer tied for 41st, and Watts tied for 55th.
The Cardinals will play next in the Mason Rudolph Invitational, which will be hosted at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tennessee April 2-3.
