People have reported that the infamous error code "Error 53" has reawakened in iOS 9 when they try to update. Primarily the reason behind the error code is they had the Touch ID sensor replaced, generally along with their iPhone screen, which voids the warranty. Therefore, they have to buy an entirely new phone.
Sometime around April of 2015, iPhones were receiving a mysterious error code called Error 53 that would make iPhones completely inaccessible, with no option aside from sending the iPhone back to HQ and getting a new one. This phonebreaking bug is said by Apple to be caused by the Touch ID sensor being tempered with as a security measure to keep fingerprint data safe.
Other people are reporting that there was never any third-party repairs done on their phones at all, such is the case with Mike Wehner of The Daily Dot, who had his Touch ID sensor start acting weirdly, which then eventually triggered Error 53.
It’s interesting that users suddenly started getting this error again after almost a full year at the same time that Apple revealed their plans to start accepting iPhones that have damaged parts, which includes broken screens.
